Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions

Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions is an 1884 novella by Edwin A. Abbott, still popular among mathematics and computer science students, and considered useful reading for people studying topics such as the concept of other dimensions. As a piece of literature, Flatland is respected for its satire on the social hierarchy of Victorian society. Isaac Asimov, in a foreword to one of the many publications of the novella, wrote that it is “The best introduction one can find into the manner of perceiving dimensions.”

The Cosmic Serpent

The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge is a 1995 non-fiction book by Jeremy Narby. Narby performed two years of field work in the Pichis Valley of thePeruvian Amazon researching the ecology of the Asháninka, an indigenous peoples in Peru.Investigating the connections between shamanism and molecular biology, Narby hypothesizes that shamans may be able to access information at the molecular level through the ingestion of entheogens, specifically ayahuasca. Biophysicist Jacques Dubochet criticized Narby for not testing his hypothesis. Narby and three molecular biologists revisited the Peruvian Amazon to try to test the hypothesis, and their work is featured in the documentary film, Night of the Liana.

Paul Stamets: 6 ways mushrooms can save the world

Entrepreneurial mycologist Paul Stamets seeks to rescue the study of mushrooms from forest gourmets and psychedelic warlords. The focus of Stamets’ research is the Northwest’s native fungal genome, mycelium, but along the way he has filed 22 patents for mushroom-related technologies, including pesticidal fungi that trick insects into eating them, and mushrooms that can break down the neurotoxins used in nerve gas.

There are cosmic implications as well. Stamets believes we could terraform other worlds in our galaxy by sowing a mix of fungal spores and other seeds to create an ecological footprint on a new planet.

Once you’ve heard ‘renaissance mycologist’ Paul Stamets talk about mushrooms, you’ll never look at the world — not to mention your backyard — in the same way again.

Fluid Perspectives Video – Chris Parks

Three dimensional moving paintings with music by Chocolate Tannoy. I am a contemporary artist, working in a unique way that I developed through my background in marine film and photography. My paintings, both moving and traditional, are intended to explore sights, sounds and feelings of being under water through their depth and movement.

I create my imagery by painting, with inks, dies and paints within a fluid medium in three dimensions. Being within a liquid, the painting is continually in movement and it is that movement which I capture in the moving versions, or freeze in the static versions.

G.I. Gurdjieff in the monastery – Meetings with Remarkable Men

Excerpt from Meetings with Remarkable Men (directed by Peter Brook, 1979).

Meetings with Remarkable Men is a 1979 British film based on the book of the same name by Russian mystic, G. I. Gurdjieff, first published in English in 1963. The plot involves Gurdjieff and his companions’ search for truth in a series of dialogues and vignettes, much as in the book. Unlike the book, these result in a definite climax—Gurdjieff’s initiation into the mysterious Sarmoung Brotherhood. The film is noteworthy for making public some glimpses of the Gurdjieff movements.
